Brisbane, QLD – The Brisbane Bandits signed pitcher Carter Hope and infielder Mike Hart to their roster ahead of Round 6. 

Hope has served as the Bandits pitching coach this season and will now make his return to the mound for the second half of the ABL season. 

The right-handed reliever has been excellent in his first two seasons on the bump at Viticon Stadium. Across 36 appearances he holds a 2.24 ERA in 52.1 innings. Hope served as the Bandits’ primary closer last season with eight saves in his 16 appearances.

Hope was a 3rd round draft pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2013 out of The Woodlands, Texas. He spent five years playing in the Royals’ orgaisation. Most recently in the United States he played with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the independent American Association.  

Hart joins the Bandits after an excellent 2024 with the Sioux Falls Canaries in the American Association as their everyday first baseman. He hit for a .323 BA with 17 doubles, 6 home runs and 41 RBI over 65 games. He has also served as the Canaries’ hitting coach their last two seasons. 

This is his second appearance in the ABL after playing 11 games with the Perth Heat in 2017-18. 

The left handed batter is a native of Lowell, Massachusetts and played collegiately at the University of Massachusetts.

Brisbane, QLD – Pitcher Ju-hyeok Park joins the Bandits for the second half of the ABL season. Park is the third player from the Korean Baseball Organization’s Samsung Lions to play for Brisbane this year and will remain with the Bandits through the remainder of the season.

Park is a 23 year-old right handed pitcher. He thrived in his first year in the top flight of the KBO in 2022 with a 1.35 ERA in eight appearances. Over 6.2 IP he allowed just one earned run with three strikeouts. 

He was a fifth round pick by the Lions in the 2020 KBO draft. Park has spent the majority of the last two seasons with the Lions KBO minor league team. He appeared in 20 games in 2024 with a 6.75 ERA including 28 strikeouts in 25.1 frames.

Park was drafted out of Whimoon High School in South Korea’s capital of Seoul. 

The Lions are one of the most successful teams in the KBO winning the Korea Series eight times with 19 overall appearances since the organisation’s founding in 1982. The club made another Korea Series appearance in 2024 falling in the KBO’s championship series to the Kia Tigers. The Lions are located in Daegu in the southeast of South Korea.

The Bandits open the second half of the ABL season on Thursday facing the Perth Heat in Round 6. Friday night is Korea Night at Viticon Stadium with a post game meet and greet with the game’s Korean players. Tickets for all games this weekend are available via the Bandits website.

Brisbane, QLD – The Brisbane Bandits announced the six players from the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in Taiwan joining the team for the second half of the ABL season. The Bandits are the exclusive ABL affiliate of the CPBL for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. 

The six players represent all six CPBL franchises and will make their Bandits debuts at Viticon Stadium this weekend during Round 6 against Perth. They replace the six CPBL players that played the first five weeks with the Bandits.

Utility Namoh Iyang, Wei-Chuan Dragons- Iyang is a two-time CPBL All-Star and a frequent member of the Taiwanese national team. He has played 359 games across four seasons for the Dragons with a combined .217 BA. 

Iyang served as Team Taiwan’s captain at the 2023 Asian Championships leading the team to a silver medal finish. He was named the tournament’s All-Star first baseman after hitting for a .471 BA in six games- the second highest of any player in the tournament.

The 26 year-old made both the 2022 and 2023 CPBL All-Star games. He was named the MVP of the second game of the 2022 CPBL All-Star games after hitting the game-winning home run.

Iyang helped the Dragons win the 2023 Taiwan Series. He was drafted in the second round of the 2019 CPBL draft by the Dragons and signed for 3.7 Million New Taiwan Dollars ($177,000 Australian dollars.)

First Baseman Yi-Cheng Wang, Fubon Guardians- Wang is a left-handed hitter and just finished his fourth season with the Guardians. He had his best top-flight pro season in 2023 with 20 hits, 15 runs, 14 RBI and three home runs in 37 games. 

The 21 year-old made his pro debut as an 18 year-old after being a 2nd round pick in the 2021 CPBL draft from Cheng-De High School in Hsinchu. 

He hit a home run in his very first CPBL at-bat becoming just the seventh player in league history to homer in their first plate appearance and the second youngest player in the CPBL to hit a long ball.

Shortstop Shiang-He Yang, CTBC Brothers- Yang played 41 games for the 2024 CPBL champs primarily at shortstop. He recorded 11 hits in 41 games and scored 13 runs in his rookie season.

The 21-year-old was drafted by the Brothers in the 5th round of the 2023 CPBL draft.  

Pitcher Pao-Chi Shieh, TSG Hawks- Shieh had a busy 2024 in his first year in the CPBL pitching 20 games out of the bullpen. The right-hander held a 5.40 ERA in 20 innings with 20 strikeouts. 

He was a 2022 2nd round CPBL draft pick by the Hawks and held a 3.67 ERA in the CPBL’s minor league in 2023. Shieh played collegiately at National Taiwan University of Sport in his hometown of Taichung City.

Pitcher Chai-Ming Lee, Rakuten Monkeys- Lee played his rookie CPBL season in 2024 with the Monkeys. He held a 4.70 ERA in 7.2 IP across eight appearances with eight strikeouts all in the final month of the season.

The 24 year-old righty was drafted in the seventh round of the 2024 CPBL draft. Lee played collegiately at Meiho University in Pingtung County in southern Taiwan.

Pitcher Chieh-Hung Yao, Uni-Lions- Yao is a right-handed arm from New Taipei City. He has played four seasons for the Uni-Lions with 37 appearances including nine starts.

Yao appeared in 11 games in 2024 with a 4.70 ERA in 15.1 innings pitched. He was a 5th round pick by the Uni-Lions in the 2020 CPBL draft out of Chinese Culture University in Taipei.

Viticon Stadium will host a CPBL Taiwan Night on Saturday 18 January as the Bandits face the Canberra Calvary. The Bandits will celebrate their CPBL players while recognizing the Taiwanese community in Brisbane including speciality giveaways.

The CPBL is the professional baseball league of Taiwan with six teams located throughout Taiwan. The league is considered one of the top three pro baseball leagues in Asia with the Nippon Professional Baseball league (Japan) and Korean Baseball Organization.

Taiwan is a growing baseball powerhouse having won the Premier12 tournament in November for their first ever major international tournament championship. 布里斯本俠盜隊宣佈，來自臺灣中華職業棒球大聯盟 (CPBL)的六名球員將加入球隊，並參與澳洲職棒下半季比賽。Brisbane Bandits是CPBL在 2024-25和 2025-26賽季的獨家ABL夥伴。

一壘手 王苡丞 富邦悍將

王苡丞是一名強力左打者，剛結束他在悍將隊的第四個賽季。在2023年，他迎來職業生涯最佳表現，在37場比賽中擊出20支安打、15次得分、14分打點，以及3支全壘打。

這位21歲的選手於18歲時就以2021年中華職棒選秀第二輪被富邦悍將選中，從新竹的成德高中進入職棒，並有著成德大王的稱號，完成了他的職業生涯首秀。

投手 謝葆錡 台鋼雄鷹

謝葆錡在2024年迎來他的中華職棒首個賽季，作為牛棚投手出賽20場。他在20局的投球中自責分率為5.40，送出20次三振。

謝葆錡於2022年中華職棒選秀第二輪被台鋼雄鷹選中，並在2023年的中華職棒二軍中繳出3.67的自責分率。他大學時期就讀於家鄉台中市的國立臺灣體育運動大學。

投手 李家明 樂天桃猿

李家明在2024年加入樂天桃猿，迎來他在中華職棒的菜鳥賽季。他在8場出賽中投了7.2局，自責分率4.70，並在賽季最後一個月送出8次三振。

這位24歲的右投手於2024年中華職棒選秀第七輪被選中。他大學期間就讀於位於台灣南部屏東縣的美和科技大學。

姚杰宏已為統一獅效力四個賽季，總共出賽37場，其中9場是先發。

2024年，姚杰宏在11場比賽中投了15.1局，自責分率4.70。他於2020年中華職棒選秀第五輪被統一獅選中，當時畢業於台北的中國文化大學。

Brisbane, QLD – The Brisbane Bandits announced the signing of outfielder Jacob Robson and infielder Andres Rios for the remainder of the ABL season. Robson and Rios will make their Bandits debuts this weekend in Sydney.

Robson is a former Major League player with the Detroit Tigers appearing in big league action in 2021. He spent six seasons in the Tiger’s system hitting for a .283 BA and a .376 OBP with 34 home runs and 111 stolen bases.

The 30 year-old Canadian will spend his fourth season in the ABL. Robson played in Melbourne in 2022-23 and in Sydney in both 2020-21 and 2023-24. 

He was a reliable bat last season for the Blue Sox notching 28 hits in 29 games for a .269 BA with nine stolen bases.

Robson played the 2024 American season with the Gastonia Baseball Club in the independent Atlantic League, hitting for a .277 BA with eight home runs and 18 stolen bases.

A left-handed hitter, Robson was drafted in the eighth round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Tigers out of American university powerhouse Mississippi State.

Rios joins the Bandits after his best season of professional baseball with the Grand Junction Jackalopes of the independent Pioneer League. He was named a PBL midseason All-Star hitting for a .352 BA, .438 OBP and .572 SLG%. Across 87 games Rios totaled a team best 120 hits and 82 RBI.

A native of San Diego, California, Rios is in the University of Arkansas at Monticello Hall of Fame after playing two stellar seasons with the Boll Weevils in 2017 and 2018 in the American university system. He hit for a .354 BA in 2018 and was named an NCBWA All-American.

The 28-year old infielder has also spent time playing in the Frontier League with the Florence Y’alls. Rios has been playing club baseball for the Windsor Royals during the 2024-25 Greater Brisbane League season.

The Brisbane Bandits announced the signing of longtime ABL pitcher Gunnar Kines to their 2024-25 opening day roster.

Kines is a tall left-handed pitcher who is poised to be a member of Brisbane’s starting rotation this season. The 31 year-old American stands six feet and four inches. He has already played for three different ABL teams in his lengthy career as well as been a member of the New York Mets and Miami Marlins organisations.

Last season for Melbourne Kines made eight starts with a 4.26 ERA in 38 innings of work. He struck out 43 batters to just eight walks. The southpaw allowed three runs or less in six of his eight outings.

Overall, across four seasons in the ABL he holds a sparkling 3.26 ERA in 35 starts and a 14-8 record. Kines was named Perth’s pitcher of the year in 2021-22 when he held a 2.86 ERA. He led the ABL in ERA among qualifying pitchers in 2018-19 with Adelaide holding a 1.50 ERA.

Kines stayed busy in the Northern Hemisphere’s 2024 summer playing for the Gastonia Baseball Club in US independent baseball’s Atlantic League and in the Mexican Baseball League with Quintana Roo and Durango. He made 21 appearances with 15 starts in 75.1 innings across the three teams.

A native of South Carolina in the southern United States, Kines was drafted in the 36th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins out of the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina. He spent 2015 playing in the Marlins system and was later picked up by the New York Mets in 2017.

Kines has played for 14 different professional teams across nine summer seasons and four winter seasons all in four different countries. That includes six seasons in the Frontier League with the majority of his time with the Schaumburg Boomers. Kines has totaled 199 professional appearances in 965.1 innings. He holds a 65-51 total record with 972 career strikeouts. 

Baseball is back in Brisbane on Wednesday as the Bandits play an intersquad exhibition game at 7:30 PM at Viticon Stadium. Admission is free but fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance here.

Four players from the Korean Baseball Organization’s Samsung Lions will play for the Brisbane Bandits during the 2024-25 ABL season.

Pitchers Sun-Yeop Yook and Dae-Ho Kim will join Brisbane for the first half of the ABL season. Two additional Lions will play for the Bandits in the second half of the season and be announced at a future date.

Yook is one of the youngest pitchers in Korea’s top level of baseball. The Lions drafted the Seoul native with their first selection and the fourth overall pick of the 2024 KBO draft.  

The 19-year-old right hander appeared in 11 games with a 5.29 ERA in his rookie season with the Lions.

He showcased versatility starting one game while also finishing five ballgames. Yook’s workload increased as the Lions made a playoff push including pitching three consecutive scoreless outings in September.

Yook has also played for the Korean National Team. He was nearly untouchable in the U18 WBSC World Cup in 2023 allowing just one run in 10 innings pitched across two starts. That included 6.1 shutout innings with eight strikeouts against Team Australia. 

Kim is a 23-year-old righty pitcher who also played his rookie season of professional baseball in 2024. He spent the majority of his year with the Lions’ minor league affiliate in the KBO Futures League. 

In the Futures League Kim held a 4.58 ERA in 72.2 innings of work primarily as a starter. He made his KBO debut in a September start tossing four innings and allowing five earned runs.

Kim is a native of Jeju City on Jeju Island. He pitched at Korea University before being signed by the Lions in 2024.

The six CPBL players coming to Brisbane for the first half of the ABL season are…

Pitcher Yi-Kai Wang, CTBC Brothers- Wang is a talented left handed pitcher from the 2024 CPBL champions the Brothers. 

He has appeared in 61 games across five seasons with a sparkling 2.89 ERA. Wang has totaled 75 strikeouts across 62.1 innings pitched. 

The 23-year-old pitched a career best 32 innings in 2021 with a 2.81 ERA. Wang’s 2022 was even more memorable. He did not allow a single run in 13.2 innings of work- the most innings pitched without allowing a run by any CPBL pitcher that season.

Outfielder Yao-Huang Lin, Rakuten Monkeys- Lin played his rookie season in 2024 with the Monkeys appearing in seven games with two hits.

He was a fifth round draft pick in the 2022 CPBL draft. The 20-year-old had a memorable first CPBL hit off star pitcher and former Arizona D-Backs draft pick Bryan Woodall.

Pitcher Ching-Jung Chao, WeiChuan Dragons- Chao is an experienced right-handed pitcher with 80 appearances for the Dragons in his first four years in the CPBL. He holds a 4.40 ERA across 77.2 innings pitched all as a reliever.

The 26-year-old has an impressive ratio of 70 strikeouts to just 41 walks. Chao’s 2022 was the best year of his career so far with a 3.34 ERA in 32.1 innings of work. He started the 2022 season with five consecutive scoreless games. His fastball has been clocked as fast as 95 miles per hour.

Infielder Jai-Hong Lin, TSG Hawks- Lin is a young left-handed middle infielder for the Hawks. He had a busy 2024 rookie season playing 56 games while hitting for a .240 BA. 

The 22-year-old stole four bases while scoring 17 runs on the year. He played in all but four of the 60 games in the Hawks’ inaugural season in the CPBL.

Outfielder Chia-Yen Tsai, Fubon Guardians- Tsai has played 80 games in three seasons for the Guardians since making his CPBL debut in 2022. The outfielder is coming off the best season of his career in 2024 hitting for a .256 BA and bashing three home runs. 

The 22 year-old was a fourth round draft pick by the Guardians in the 2021 CPBL draft. His cousin and Guardians teammate Sheng-Wei Wang is a CPBL legend with 1,397 career hits- the 10th most in CPBL history. 

Pitcher Tzu-Wei Lin, Uni-Lions- Lin is a very experienced lefty pitcher from the 2024 CPBL runner-ups. He has pitched in nine seasons for the Uni-Lions since making his debut in 2015. 

Across 120 appearances including 23 starts Lin holds a 5.73 ERA in 191.2 innings. Lin shined in 2023 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 appearances with 7 starts.

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Hyungchan Um will return to Brisbane for a second season.

Um was the everyday backstop for the Bandits in the 2023-24 season catching 30 games behind the plate for Brisbane. 

A South Korea native, Um threw out 11 baserunners in 2023-24, third most in the ABL. He allowed just one passed ball all season with a .987 fielding percentage in his 243 innings behind the plate for Brisbane.

Um hit for a .248 BA with four home runs and 12 RBI across 33 games at the plate in his first season with the Bandits.

Most recently Um finished his second season in the Kansas City Royals organization after signing out of high school in South Korea for $400,000 USD as one of the top prospects in the country.

Just 20-years-old he split the 2024 Minor League Baseball season with the Royals’ Arizona Complex League team and Single-A Columbia Fireflies. Um shined as a catcher, throwing out 14 runners and holding a .994 fielding percentage across 308.1 innings as the backstop.

The catcher showed pop in 2024 bashing eight home runs with a .244 BA, .358 OBP and 38 RBI. 

He currently is the No. 25 ranked prospect in the Royals organization by MLB.com with a 2027 estimated time of arrival in the big leagues for Kansas City. Um aims to be the first ever South Korean catcher to make the major leagues.

Um grew up in South Korea’s capital of Seoul and was named the top high school catcher in the country after hitting for a .390 BA in his final year of high school play. His Father Jong-soo Um played a season as a catcher for the Atlanta Braves High-A affiliate in Myrtle Beach in 2001. They are the first ever father-son duo to play for major league baseball organizations.

The Brisbane Bandits announced the signing of a second Kansas City Royals prospect in outfielder Brennon McNair to join the 2023-24 team.

McNair joins Royals Pitcher Natanael Garabitos on the Bandits with a third Royals prospect signee to be announced tomorrow.

A highly regarded prospect out of Magee High School in Mississippi, McNair was drafted in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB draft with the 319th overall pick by the Royals.

McNair has played three full seasons in the Royals organization playing the last two years with the Single-A Columbia Fireflies. In 2024 he played 87 games for Columbia primarily starting in left field. He recorded 52 hits, bashed eight home runs and stole nine bases.

The 22-year-old has shown pop and power in his young professional career with 18 home runs and 39 stolen bases in the Royals’ organization.

McNair was the only Mississippi high school player drafted in 2021 after leading Magee to the state championship series. McNair hit for a .527 BA with 43 RBI and 11 home runs in his final season with the Trojans.

The Brisbane Bandits announce the signing of the first Kansas City Royals prospect to the 2024-25 squad with pitcher Natanael Garabitos.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Garabitos has served as a hard throwing late inning reliever in five seasons in Minor League Baseball.

He played his first four seasons in the Seattle Mariners system after being signed in 2019 as an amateur from the Dominican Republic. Garabitos was then traded in March of 2024 to the Royals organization.

Garabitos spent 2024 with the Royals High-A affiliate the Quad Cities River Bandits. He appeared in 34 games as a reliever with a 4.46 ERA across 42.1 innings pitched. A key cog late in games, Garabitos finished 19 games for the River Bandits including two saves.

The righty arm has proven to be a strike out machine averaging 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings in his pro career. Garabitos fastball was clocked reaching 100 mph in 2024 and his fastball averages around 96 mph. 

In 2023 Garabitos helped the Single A Modesto Nuts win the California League championship. He struck out 54 batters in 40.1 innings pitched with eight saves as part of 18 games finished. Baseball America named Garabitos with the best fastball in the Mariners minor league system after the 2023 season.
